Section 10(1) in Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964
(1)In every [municipal area] [Substituted by Act 36 of 1994 w.e.f. 1-6-1994.], there shall be a municipal council, and every such municipal council shall be a body corporate by the name of "the City Municipal Council of " or "the Town Municipal Council of ", as the case may be, and shall have perpetual succession and a common seal with power, subject to the provisions of this Act, to acquire, hold and dispose of property and to contract and may by the said name sue and be sued [through its Chief Officer or Municipal Commissioner] [Inserted by Act 34 of 1966 w.e.f. 16.1.1967.].
