Seventeenth Loksabha pan> Title: Demand to give compensations to farmers who lost their crops due to heavy rains and assistance to build damaged Houses under Indira Awas Yojana and Prime Minister Awas Yojana in Nagapattinam Parliamentary Constituency, Tamil Nadu.

SHRI M. SELVARAJ (NAGAPATTINAM): Sir, I wish to bring to your kind notice that the northeast monsoon has advanced unexpectedly this year and caused innumerable and irreparable damages to the livelihood of the farmers and severely caused losses in more than three lack acres of cultivable land in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Tanjaur delta regions.

          It has rained this year more than 200 per cent over the average rainfall in this part of Tamil Nadu due to which Samba, Thaladi paddy crops have fully submerged which were ready for harvest. It has been rendered waste and the farmers are in great losses.

          Even house and hut has been destroyed due to heavy rain and there has been water logging for more than 15 days. Most of the houses under Indira Awas Yojana and Prime Minister Awas Yojana were heavily damaged which needs to be compensated by the Government. Roads have also been damaged due to heavy erosion which need to be constructed from the Central funds.

          Our hon. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, took the necessary steps. … (Interruptions)

Therefore, I would request, through you, that the Government should take immediate steps to give compensation to the farmers for the loss of cultivation to the tune of Rs.30,000 per acre immediately. … (Interruptions)

SHRI M. SELVARAJ: Our hon. Chief Minister wrote a letter to the hon. Prime Minister for sanction of funds from the National Disaster Management Fund. I would like to request, through you, the Union Government to release the fund immediately.
