Section 31(1) in The States Reorganisation Act, 1956
(1)As from the appointed day and until the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly of a new State other than Kerala, the persons who immediately before the appointed day are the Speaker 320 and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the corresponding State shall, if they are members of the Legislative Assembly of the new State, be the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, of that Assembly.
