Seventeenth Loksabha > Title: Need to provide better rail connectivity to Namakkal in Tamil Nadu.
SHRI A. K. P. CHINRAJ (NAMAKKAL): My Namakkal parliamentary constituency is famous for poultry business and truck body building industry Namakkal district is considered as a major trucks hub in the country and it alone has about 110 units. The Namakkal-Tiruchengode belt accounts for over 150 of the units. A lot of raw materials like steel, timber and other materials come to Namakkal from various parts of the country and lot of food items and other essential things come from various parts of the country to meet the demands and shortages of the poultry industry.
At present, one weekly train Tuticorin to Okha express is running from Tuticorin via Karur-Erode-Salem. I request the Hon’ble Minister to divert this train route via Karur- Namakkal-Salem (instead of Erode) which will be more useful for the poultry industry and truck body building industry. Likewise, Nagarkoil to Mumbai express (No. 16339/16340) is running from Karur-Erode-Salem 04 days in a week. This train is also to be diverted via Namakkal (instead of Erode), so that the textile industry, poultry industry and truck body building industry will be benefitted and be developed. Further, a daytime intercity express may be introduced from Karur-Namakkal-Salem-Chennai and vice versa for the convenience of the officer goers, businessmen. In addition to that, a full-fledged infrastructure facilities along with Escalator and Lift facilities may be provided in Namakkal Railway Station.
Hence, I urge upon the Hon’ble Minister of Railways to ‘take necessary action immediately to fulfill the long pending demands of my Namakkal constituency people.
