Section 26 in Haryana Municipal Building Bye-laws 1982

26. Foundations.

(1)the foundations of every building shall be so constructed as to sustain the combined dead load of the building as well as the super imposed load and to transmit those loads to the sub-soil in such a manner that the pressure on the sub-soil shall not exceed the safe pressures specified below :-

For eccentric loads, the maximum safe allowable pressure may exceed the values given above by 10 per cent.
(2)The loads shall not cause settlements of the buildings or any part of the building as may impair its stability.
(3)For buildings more than 3 storey high, foundations shall be designed after making standard tests or establishing the safe bearing pressure of the soil and the foundation shall be taken down to such a depth or so constructed as to render the building immune from damage from upheaval and movement due to seasonal variations in the content of the moisture in the ground.
