26. The Deputy Mayor to act as Mayor or to discharge the functions of Mayor during casual vacancy in the office of Mayor or during the absence of Mayor.
(1)In the event of the occurrence of any vacancy in the office of the Mayor by reason of his death, the Deputy Mayor shall act as Mayor until the date on which a new Mayor elected in accordance with the provisions of the Act to fill such vacancy enters upon his office.(2)When the Mayor is unable to discharge the functions of the Mayor owing to absence, illness or any other cause, the Deputy Mayor shall discharge his functions until the date on which the Mayor resumes his duties.(3)Subject to the other provisions of this Act, the Deputy Mayor shall, while acting as, or discharging the functions of, the Mayor under this section, have all the powers of the Mayor.
