Request To Government To Keep The Plant Of Salai Guggul (Boswellia Serrata) Under ... on 17 March, 2020
Seventeenth Loksabha > Title: Request to government to keep the plant of Salai Guggul (Boswellia Serrata) under the positive category of NDF and remove it from the list of Endangered Species.
SHRI RAGHU RAMA KRISHNA RAJU (NARSAPURAM): Sir, I would like to bring in an issue which is related to the tribal population predominantly present in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and, to some extent, in our State. This is with regard to the plant by name ‘Boswellia Serrata’, which is also known as Salai Guggul. They get resin out of that plant which is used in medicines. Worldwide there is a problem because it is kept under the Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora by the CITES. But in India, only 10 per cent of the produce is exported and absolutely, there is no danger for the plants. Around one lakh Tribals are dependent upon that particular plant. So, to continue their livelihood, I request the Government to send a report, before 25th March, to keep the plant under the positive category of NDF and to remove it from the List of Endangered Species. I am submitting a representation also to the Ministry concerned. Thank you so much.
