Section 9(2) in The Merchant Shipping (Fire Appliances) Rules, 1969
(2)In every such ship, machinery spaces containing steam turbines or closed pressure lubricating steam engines shall be provided with adequate number of portable fire extinguishers on a scale of one such extinguishers for every 1,000 BHP or part thereof :Provided that the number of portable fire extinguishers so provided all never be less than two and may not be more than six including the be extinguishers provided under rule 10.
