Section 173 in The Tamil Nadu Co-Operative Societies Act, 1983

173. Saving of existing societies.

(1)Every society existing on the date of commencement of this Act which has been registered under the Co-operative Credit Societies Act, 1904 (Central Act X of 1904), or under the Co-operative Societies Act, 1912 (Central Act II of 1912), or under the Madras Co-operative Societies Act, 1932 (Madras Act VI of 1932), or under the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Societies Act, 1961 (Tamil Nadu Act 53 of 1961), and every society to which the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Land Development Banks Act, 1934 (Tamil Nadu Act X of 1934) applied immediately before the date of the commencement of this Act shall be deemed to be registered under this Act; and its by-laws, shall, so far as the same are not inconsistent with the express provisions of this Act, continue in force until altered or rescinded.
(2)Every society which has been registered under the law applicable to cooperative societies in the areas which formerly formed part of the State of Pudukkottai or in the Kanyakumari district or the Shencottah taluk of the Tirunelveli district or in the territories specified in the Second Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh and Madras (Alteration of Boundaries) Act, 1959 (Central Act 56 of 1959), shall, if the Registrar, by an order in writing, so declares, be deemed to be registered under this Act and its by-laws shall, so far as the same are not inconsistent with the express provisions of this Act, continue in force until they are altered or rescinded.
(3)All appointments, Rules, regulations and orders made, notifications and notices issued and suits and other proceedings instituted under the Acts mentioned in sub-section (1) shall, so far as maybe, be deemed to have been respectively made, issued and instituted under this Act.
