Section 4(4) in The Anna University of Technology, Chennai Act, 2010
(4)to hold examinations and to confer degrees, titles, diplomas and other academic distinctions on persons who have,-(a)pursued an approved course of study in a University college or laboratory or in an affiliated or approved college, unless exempted therefrom in the manner prescribed by the statutes and shall have passed the prescribed examinations of the University; or(b)carried out research in the University or in any other centre or institution recognized by the University under conditions prescribed;
