Section 125(1) in The West Bengal Panchayat Act, 1973

(1)The members of a Sthayee Samiti shall elect, in such manner as may be prescribed, a Chairman, to be called Karmadhyaksha, from among themselves:Provided that the Sabhapati to the Panchayat Samiti shall be the ex officio Karmadhyaksha of the [Artha, Sanstha, Unnayan O Parikalpana] [Words substituted for the words 'Artha O Sanstha' by W.B. Act 37 of 1984.] Sthayee Samiti:Provided further that the members referred to in [clauses (i) and (ii) of sub-section (2) of section 94 shall not be eligible for such election.] [Word, brackets and figure 'clause (iii)' first substituted for the words, brackets, figure and letter 'sub-clause (iii) of clause (a)' by W.B. Act 58 of 1978, then the words, brackets and figures within third brackets substituted for the word, brackets and figure 'clause (iii)' by W.B. Act 37 of 1984.][Provided also that the Karmadhyaksha for Sishu O Nari Unnayan, Janakalyan O Tran Sthayee Samiti shall be elected from among the women members of the Sthayee Samiti.] [Added by W.B. Act 37 of 1984, which was as under:-'(2) If the Pradhan of a Gram Panchayat is elected Karmadhyaksha of a Sthayee Samiti he shall cease to be the Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat, but shall, notwithstanding anything in section 94, continue to be a member of the Panchayat Samiti for the full term of his office as Karmadhyaksha of the Sthayee Samiti.'.]]
