Whoever contravenes or attempts to contravene or abets the contravention of the provisions of this Act [or of any rules or regulations made there under] [Substituted by Act 57 of 1985, Section 11 (w.e.f. 1.12.1985). ] other than the provisions, punishment for the contravention whereof has been provided for in section 20 or section 23 or section 24, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may [extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees, or with both] [Substituted by Act 57 of 1985, Section 11 (w.e.f. 1.12.1985). ] and in the case of a continuing contravention with an additional fine which may extend to fifty rupees for every day during which such contravention continues after conviction for the first such contravention.
