(1)This Act may be called the Assam Municipal Act, 1956.(2)It extends to the whole of Meghalaya provided that the Chief Commissioner may by Notification direct that the Act shall apply to any particular area with such exceptions as may be specified;(3)It shall come into on such date as the Chief commissioner may, by notification, direct.
