120. Entrustment of functions to Panchayat Samitis.
(1)The State Government may entrust, conditionally or unconditionally to a Panchayat Samiti, functions in relation to any matter, to which the executive authority of the State Government extends or in respect of functions which have been entrusted to the State Government by the Central Government and the Panchayat Samiti shall be bound to perform such functions.(2)Where functions are entrusted to a Panchayat Samiti under sub-section (1), the Panchayat Samiti shall, in discharge of such functions, act as an agent of the State Government.(3)Where by virtue of this section, powers and duties have been conferred or imposed as agency functions upon a Panchayat Samiti the Panchayat Samiti shall be paid by the State Government such sum as may be determined by the State Government in respect of any extra cost of administration incurred by the Panchayat Samiti in connection with the exercise of these powers and duties.(4)In so far as the Panchayat Samiti is required to act under this section it shall be under the general control of, and comply with such particular directions, if any, as may from time to time be given to it by the State Government or any other authority appointed by the State Government in this behalf.
