Section 273 in Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959

273. Power of Municipal Commissioner in respect of public streets.

(1)The Municipal Commissioner shall from time to time cause all public streets vested in the Corporation to be leveled, metalled or paved, channelled, altered and repaired, as occasion shall require, and may also from to time widen, extend or otherwise improve any such street or cause the soil thereof to be raised, lowered or altered and may place and keep in repair fences and posts for the safety of pedestrians :Provided that no widening, extension or other improvement of a public street, the aggregate cost of which will exceed five thousand rupees or such higher amount as the Corporation may, from time to time fix, shall be undertaken by the Municipal Commissioner unless or until such undertaking has been authorized by the Corporation.
(2)With the sanction of the Corporation given in accordance with the rules and bye-laws in force in that behalf, the Municipal Commissioner may turn, divert, discontinue the public use of, or permanently close the whole or any part of a public street vested in the Corporation and upon such closure may, subject to the previous sanction of the State Government and the Corporation dispose of the site of such street, or of the portion thereof which has been closed, as land vesting in the Corporation.
