Lok Sabha Debates

Issue Regarding Plight Of The Anglo-Indian Community In The Country. on 21 July, 2017

Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Issue regarding plight of the Anglo-Indian community in the country.

PROF. RICHARD HAY (NOMINATED): Hon. Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak about the plight of the Anglo Indian community in the country.

It is very sad to state that since India’s Independence the Anglo Indian community, whom I represent, has dwindled in size and in numbers and the community is facing a battle of survival unless it can reverse its trend.  Many of them are living in poor conditions in different parts of the country.  Hence, I urge upon the Government of India to take steps to grant land for the housing of the poor Anglo Indians in the country.

There is also a dire need to win greater Government support to help preserve its unique culture.  Hence, I urge upon the Government of India to provide land and buildings to house Anglo Indian Community Cultural Centres in places where a sizeable number of Anglo Indians live.

Many of the Anglo Indians do not have the wherewithal to afford the cost of higher studies.  Therefore, it is urged upon the Government of India to reserve a few seats in the universities so that the poor Anglo Indians could improve upon opportunities to undergo courses in the higher education.

HON. SPEAKER:

Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel and   Shri George Baker are permitted to associate with the issue raised by Prof. Richard Hay.
