Need To Issue Noc To Undertake Rejuvenation Work Of Ramanna Kunta Lake In ... on 11 April, 2017

Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Need to issue NOC to undertake rejuvenation work of Ramanna Kunta Lake in Secunderabad Cantonment area in Telangana.

SHRI CH. MALLA REDDY (MALKAJGIRI): Hon. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for giving me this opportunity to mention about a matter of urgent public importance.

Ramannakunta Lake is one of the famous lakes in Secunderabad Cantonment Board Area which comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence. This area also comes under my parliamentary constituency, Malkajgiri. This lake is of 100 years old. It used to meet the needs of the residents. Once upon a time, the water from this Lake was used by the residents for drinking purposes. But, unfortunately, the upper colonies’ sewer lines were connected to this Lake by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation due to which the entire Lake has been contaminated and it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Thousands of residents of surrounding colonies are facing a lot of health problems due to pollution of this Lake. It releases bad smell. The Telangana State Pollution Control Board has also certified that this Lake water has been totally contaminated and filled with toxic chemicals. Not only this, but this Lake water is seeping into the earth and the ground water in the surrounding areas has also been contaminated.

Under the dynamic leadership of our hon. Chief Minister Shri K. Chandrashekar Rao, the State Government of Telangana has started the Mission Kakatiya to repair lakes situated in the State. The State is ready to take up the repair work of Ramannakunta Lake but the same has been held up for want of ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Ministry of Defence.

Therefore, I would request the Ministry of Defence to grant the NoC immediately to enable the State Government to undertake repair work of Ramannakunta Lake and to save the residents of the surrounding areas from air and water pollution.

HON. DEPUTY-SPEAKER: Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel is permitted to associate with the issue raised by Shri Ch. Malla Reddy.
