Regarding Withdrawal Of Crpf Sent To Koraput District, Orissa To Check Naxalite ... on 3 December, 2002
NT> Title: Regarding withdrawal of CRPF sent to Koraput district, Orissa to check naxalite activities.
SHRI PRASANNA ACHARYA (SAMBALPUR): Sir, through you, I would like to draw the attention of the Government to a very alarming situation that has arisen in the undivided Koraput District in Orissa which is adjacent to Andhra Pradesh. Particularly in Rayagada District, in the name of Naxalite Movement, murder, arson and looting are going on there unrestricted and unchecked. Last week, only one of my Party’s General Secretaries of Rayagada District, a young man of around 30 years called Jajathi Sahu, was dragged from his house and in broad day light he was killed by the so-called naxalites. Just two months back, the house of one of the Cabinet Ministers in the State, belonging to the BJP and belonging to that area, was set on fire and it was totally gutted. Nobody came for his help. The situation has come to such an alarming stage that even the police people are not coming out of the police stations and out of their houses during evening, what to say of the common citizens of that area. Unfortunately, at this juncture, the Government of India has decided to withdraw the CRPF already deployed there. When the State Government is fervently appealing to the Union Government to send more CRPF personnel to take control of the situation, the Government of India, on the pretext of the Gujarat elections, has withdrawn the CRPF. So, it is a very alarming situation.
Therefore, I urge upon the Union Government to take note of the situation and send more CRPF forces to replace the police because the State Government is miserably failing and the police are miserably failing in this regard. Hence, it is the duty of the Union Government to take care of the situation. Thank you.
