Section 126(1) in Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920
(1)The municipal council may, with the sanction of the [State Government] [The words 'Provincial Government' were substituted for the words 'Local Government' were substituted for the words 'Local Government' by the Adaptation Order of 1937 and the word 'State' was substituted for the word 'Provincial' by the Adaptation Order of 1950], direct the construction of such works as it deems fit without the limits of the municipality for supplying it with water and may provide channels, tanks, reservoirs, cisterns, engines, mains, wells, fountains, stand-pipes, and other works as it may deem fit within the said limits for the use of the inhabitants.
