Section 19 in The Saurashtra University Act, 1965

19. The Syndicate.

(1)The Syndicate shall be the executive authority of the University and shall consist of the following namely:-
(i)The Vice-Chancellor ex-officio Chairman;
(ii)[ The Pro-Vice-Chancellor; [Clauses (ii) and (iii) substituted by Gujarat 10 of 1982, dated 24th February, 1982 (w.r.e.f. 09-12-1981).]
(iii)The Director of Higher Education and if he is unable to attend the officer designated under clause (ii) in paragraph (B) of Class 1 of section 16;
(iiia)The Director of Technical Education and if he is unable to attend, the officer designated under clause (iii) of paragraph (B) of Class I of subsection (1) of section 16.
(iiib)The Director of Health and Medical Services and Medical Education and if he is unable to attend, the officer designated under clause (iv) of paragraph (B) of Class I of sub-section (1) of section 16;]
(iv)two members to be elected by the Principals of affiliated degree colleges and heads of recognised institutions, from amongst themselves;
(v)One member to be elected by the teachers elected to the Senate under section 16 (1), Class II (A) (iii), from amongst themselves;
(vi)one member to be elected by the Heads of the University Departments from amongst themselves;
(vii)five persons elected by the Senate from amongst its members who are not Principals, teachers, heads of the University Departments, headmasters, heads of recognised institutions and secondary teachers;
(viii)two persons elected by the Academic Council from amongst its members one of whom shall be a Dean;
(ix)[ four persons nominated by the State Government from amongst distinguished educationists, teachers, social workers and such other class of persons, irrespective of whether they are members of the Senate.] [inserted by Gujarat 10 of 1982, dated 24th February, 1982 (w.r.e.f. 09-12-1981).]
Provided that a member elected under clauses (iv) to (viii) shall cease to hold office as such member if he ceases to be a member of the Senate, or a Dean, or a teacher, or a head of the University Department or a Principal or a member of the Academic Council, as the case may be.
(2)The term of office of the elected members of the Syndicate shall be three years.
