Issue Regarding A Major Train Accident In Rayagada District In Koraput ... on 26 June, 2019
Seventeenth Loksabha an> Title: Issue regarding a major train accident in Rayagada district in Koraput Parliamentary Constituency, Odisha.
SHRI SAPTAGIRI SANKAR ULAKA (KORAPUT): Speaker Sir, thank you so much for giving me an opportunity. This is my first term in Lok Sabha. I would like to draw the attention of the Government, through you, to a major train accident that happened in my constituency Rayagada, which is a part of KBK. Unfortunately, the Samaleshwari Express train hit a tower car engaged in railway work. This exposes the fact that there is no coordination between the railway staff. How was the train given a signal and how did it hit the tower car? Three railway staff died in the accident. But this is not the first time that it has happened. In my Rayagada district, two years back, around 39 people were killed and 54 injured when Hirakhand Express derailed. Nothing happened after that. For two years, there has been investigation; there has been no action or action plan. Hon. Prime Minister, Mr. Modi has been saying that they are modernizing the railways and that they are looking into the infrastructure of the crumbling railways and so on, but we do not see any improvement in this. Since hon. Prime Minister yesterday invoked the name of Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, I am asking through you whether hon. Railway Minister will do something similar; whether he will resign because of this lapse. This is what my question is.
