3. The present petition has been filed by the petitioner seeking that the respondents be directed to take steps for the repatriation of the petitioner's son, who went to Russia on a student visa on 10.01.2024 and whose whereabouts are presently unknown.
4. The petitioner apprehends that her son was framed in a false case, in connection with which he was detained. It is further apprehended that the petitioner's son may have been deployed by the Russian Forces as part of the ongoing armed conflict between Russian and Ukraine.

7. Learned counsel for the respondents submits that she has written instructions to the following effect:
"1. It may kindly be noted that Mr. Sahil Mahamadhusen Majothi (Passport No. X9540641, DoB: 30/09/2002), was a language student at ITMO, St. Petersburg and was serving a 7-year jail term for possession of narcotic drugs since 10.04.2024 in Federal Penitentiary Institution IK-6, Vladimir Region. The Indian Embassy officials had met Mr. Majothi on 19.06.2024 and had been in regular contact with his family.
2. The Indian Embassy had requested approval for a follow-up consular visit to Mr. Majothi on 05.08.2025. The Russian authorities on 03.10.2025 replied to Indian Embassy that the consular visit was denied as he had been released from jail.
3. The Indian Embassy then requested the authorities to provide details of his release and whereabouts. Around that time, on 07.10.2025, media reports surfaced suggesting that Mr. Majothi had joined Russian Army and was sent to the frontline, where he had surrendered to the Ukrainian forces. In the video message doing rounds in the media, Mr. Majothi says that he opted to join the Russian Army voluntarily to escape the long prison sentence."
8. Let the respondents make serious and urgent efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of the petitioner's son and ensure his safety and wellbeing. Appropriate steps be also taken to obtain access in terms of the 'Vienna Convention on Consular Relations' and to initiate steps for repatriation of the petitioner's son.
9. Further, attempt shall be made to facilitate the petitioner's contact with her son.
10. Respondent/ Ministry of External Affairs is also directed to depute an officer to liaise with the concerned authorities in Ukraine and the Ukraine High Commission, who shall also keep the petitioner apprised as to the efforts and progress achieved as regards the above directions.
