Need To Establish A Knitwear Board In Tirrupur In Tamil Nadu. on 19 July, 2016
Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Need to establish a Knitwear Board in Tirrupur in Tamil Nadu.
SHRIMATI V. SATHYABAMA (TIRUPPUR) :The Union Government has recently announced a Special Package for Textile and Apparel Sector with specific objective of creating one crore jobs in the next three years. In order to succeed in this initiative, it is imperative that existing textile clusters like Tiruppur, which is contributing to around 25% of apparel export and 46% of Knitwear exports from the country, should be provided with adequate infrastructure and facilities so as to facilitate rapid growth. Especially creation of large scale housing infrastructure for labour, either under PPP model or under Housing for all by 2022 initiative is the need of the hour.
Another area to be addressed is skill development. The existing labour are self groomed with inherent lacunae and shortcomings. One time skill upgradation initiative from the Government is required. This will not only enhance the quality and image of the country's products but also result in the overall growth of the Industry.
Establishing a dedicated 'Knitwear Board' at Tiruppur would certainly make India the Global Leader in Apparel Manufacturing creating millions of jobs uplifting the poor, especially rural women. I urge the Government to form the Knitwear Board as early possible and make Tiruppur its headquarters.
