Regarding Loss Of Crops And Houses Due To Floods In Eastern Vidrabha Region In ... on 21 September, 2020

Seventeenth Loksabha an> Title: Regarding loss of crops and houses due to floods in Eastern Vidrabha region in Maharashtra .

SHRI ASHOK MAHADEORAO NETE (GADCHIROLI-CHIMUR): Hon. Speaker Sir, I would like to draw your kind attention towards five districts of Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gondia and Nagpur of Eastern Viarbha region in Maharashtra.

In the last week of August, around 20-25 days ago, water from Sanjay Sarover project of Madhya Pradesh was discharged and due to this heavy flow, all the gates of Gosikhurd project had to open at once.  It is the heaviest of the floods in the recent past and it was more severe than the one in 1994 and in 2005.

This is not a natural calamity but in fact, it is a man-made crisis.  The Government of Madhya Pradesh did not inform about it and that caused a heavy flood in this area resulted in submergion   of farms.  Thousands of acres of agricultural land is badly affected and standing crops got completely devastated.  Cattles, goats and poultry, along with other pets perished in the flood.  Houses of villagers have damaged and their household possessions were washed away.  They have incurred exponential losses due to these man-made floods. Government of Maharashtra has given Rs.5000 per family as an aid but I would like to request Union Government to provide at least Rs.10,000 per family.

I know that a central team had visited Earstern Vidarbha for survey to assess the loss and damage.  Around 92000 people have been affected and as per the initial assessment the Government has estimated the loss to the tone of Rs.1000 crore.

Hence, I would like to request the State Government as well as Central Government to provide Rs.30,000 per hectre for the agricultural farmers and Rs.50,000 per hectre for the horticulture farmers.  Moreover, the Government should also provide a special and immediate help to the persons whose houses have got damaged and they should also be considered for the benefits of Government Housing Scheme.

          Thank you.
