Section 110 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

110. Captains and Commander in Command of a ship.

(1)At the funeral of a Captain or Commander in Command of a ship, seven minute guns shall be fired by the ship he commanded, whilst the body is proceeding to the place of cremation or interment. After the body is deposited in the grave, or in the sea or cremated, a salute of seven guns shall also be fired by the same ship. If the ship be alone,the officer succeeding to the Command shall order this to be done.The minute guns and salute shall be fired only by the ship which the officer commanded, and this shall be done whether the ship is present at the port of cremation or interment or not. If circumstances do not permit of the minute guns being fired by the ship which the officer commanded, they shall not be fired by any other ship in lieu.
(2)If the funeral takes place ashore the procedure laid down in Regulation 111 shall be carried out in addition.
