Section 53(3) in The Madurai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1971
(3)The said person shall be deemed to have been elected only tor the ward so chosen or so notified, as the case may be, and the vacancies thereby arising in the representation of the other divisions shall be filled by fresh elections.
