Section 383 in The Punjab Municipal Act, 1999

383. Chief Officer may close street in which work is in progress.

(1)The Chief Officer of a Municipality may, when any such work as referred to in section 382 or any work, which may lawfully be executed in any street is in progress, direct that such street shall be wholly or partially closed to traffic or to traffic of such description, as he may think fit, and shall set up in a conspicuous position or an order prohibiting traffic to the extent so directed, and fix such bars, chains or post across or in the street, as he may think proper for preventing or restricting the traffic therein.
(2)No person shall, without the permission of the Chief Officer or without any other lawful authority remove any bar, chain or post so fixed or infringe any order prohibiting traffic so set up.
