SHRI K.C. VENUGOPAL (ALAPPUZHA): The Haj embarkation point in Kerala is now functioning at Cochin Airport. This was shifted from Calicut Airport to Cochin because of the runway maintenance work at Calicut Airport in 2015. The runway maintenance work at Calicut airport is now completed and the Airport is ready for landing wide bodied aircraft also. Majority of the people going for Haj belong to Malabar region and for them Calicut airport is the nearest one. Moreover a full-fledged Haj House is also situated near the airport. Considering these facts, I would request the Government to commence Haj service from Calicut airport from this year itself by opening Haj embarkation at Calicut along with Cochin airport.
