(2)Within 50 days of the effective date of transfer the Distribution Companies shall apply to the Commission for the grant of licence under section 18 of the Act to undertake the business of distribution and retail supply of electricity in the respective areas of supply as specified in Schedule-L:Provided, however, that on and from the effective date of transfer and till the grant of licence by the Commission, the Distribution Companies shall be entitled to exercise the rights and powers exercisable by the Board under the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948 (Central Act No. 54 of 1948), and undertake the business of distribution and retail supply of electricity, in the respective areas of supply as specified in Schedule-I, in the same manner as the Board was entitled to, prior to the effective date of transfer.
