Section 17(13) in Madurai-Kamaraj University Act, 1965
(13)to confer degrees, titles, diplomas and other academic distinctions on persons who-(a)shall have pursued an approved course of study in a University college or laboratory or in an affiliated or approved college or have been exempted therefrom in the manner prescribed and shall have passed the prescribed examinations of the University; or(b)shall have carried on research under conditions prescribed;
