- The Executive Authority or the Commissioner or the [Secretary] [Substituted for the words 'Chief Executive Officer' by Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Third Amendment) Act, 1998 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1998).] or any person authorised by him, may examine and test the weights and measures used in the markets and shops in the Panchayat Village or the Panchayat Union Council or the District Panchayat area, as the case may be, with a view to the prevention and punishment of offences relating to such weights and measures under Chapter XIII of the Indian Penal Code (Central Act XLV of 1860).
