Section 43 in Birsa Munda Tribal University Act, 2017

43. Honorary degree.

(1)If not less than two-thirds of the members of the Academic Council recommend that an honorary degree or other academic distinction be conferred on any person on the ground that he is in their opinion, by reason of eminent position and attainments a fit and proper person to receive such degree or other academic distinction and where their recommendation is supported by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of the Board present at a meeting of the Board, such majority comprising not less than one-half of the members of the Board, and the recommendation is confirmed by the State Government, the Board may confer on such person the honorary degree or other academic distinction so recommended without requiring him to undergo any examination.
(2)Not more than two persons shall be conferred with such academic distinction or honorary degree during an academic year by the University.
(3)The Academic Council may, by a special resolution passed by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members present and voting, recommend to the State Government after consultation with the Vice-Chancellor to withdraw an honorary degree granted to any person by the University for good and sufficient cause:Provided that no such resolution shall be passed until a notice in writing has been given to that person calling upon him to show cause within such time as may be specified in the notice as to why such a resolution should not be passed and until objections, if any, and any evidence he may produce in support of them, have been considered by the Academic Council.
