SHRI SU. THIRUNAVUKKARASAR, (TIRUCHIRAPPALLI): The Karaikudi — Tiruvarur MG Section was taken up for BG conversion in 2012. After seven long years of completion, statutory clearances were accorded for operation in April 2019. Initially, DEMU train was operated on this route. Later, with the imposition of lockdown, the train service was suspended in March 2020 and not resumed yet.
The undue delay in resumption of train services in this Section has. caused much disappointment and hardship to rail users particularly, the senior citizens, pregnant women, agriculturists and people residing in delta region. Despite crores of rupees were spent for laying this newline, it has remained completely unutilised due to non-deployment of gatekeepers in its 72 manned railway gates and other essential staff.
I shall, therefore, humbly urge upon the Hon’ble Minister of Railways to take immediate necessary action for early resumption of train services on Karaikudi — Aranthangi — Peravurani — Pattukottai — Thiruthurainoondi — Tiruvarur (150 kms.) BG Section.
