Short title given by the Amending Act, 1897 (5 of 1897), Section 4 and Schedule III.Since this Act supplements the Bengal Patni Taluks Regulation, 1819 (8 of 1819), it must be taken to have been passed, like that Regulation, for the whole of the former Province of Bengal.The Act has been declared, by notification under the Scheduled Districts Act, 1874 (14 of 1874), s.3, to be in force in the Districts of Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Palamau and Manbhum and Pargana Dhalbhum and the Kolhan in the District of Singbhum in the Chota Nagpur Division.see Gazette of India, 1881, Part I, Page 504.The Act has also been declared to be in force in Sonthal Parga

Preamble. - WHEREAS patnidars [*] [The words "and judgment-debtors," were repealed by the Act 12 of 1891, Section 2 and Schedule I, Part I.] fraudulently avail themselves of the [provision in section 9] [The provision referred to repealed by Section 1 of the present Act.], Regulation 9, 1819, of the Bengal Code [*] [The words and figures "and in section 5, Act 4, 1846," repealed by Act 12 of 1891, Section 2 and Schedule I, Part I.] that forfeited deposits at sales of land [***] [The words "in Execution of decrees or" epealed by Act 12 of 1891, Section 2 and Schedule I, Part I.] for arrears of rent shall be applied as if they were purchase-money; It is enacted as follows :-
