414. [ Transitory provision. [Inserted by the Tamil Nadu Act 26 of 1994.]
- Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, or in any other law for the time being in force, the State Government may, by notification, if necessary, appoint a Special Officer to exercise the powers and discharge the functions of the corporation until the day on which the first meeting of the council is held after ordinary elections to the corporation after the commencement of the Tamil Nadu Municipal Corporation Laws (Amendment and Special Provision) Act, 1994 (Tamil Nadu Act 26 of 1994).(2)The Special Officer appointed under sub-section (1) shall hold office [up to the 31st day of December, 1996 or for such shorter period as the State Government may, by notification, specify in this behalf].]
