Seventeenth Loksabha p> Title: Issue regarding development of sports under "Khelo India Programme" and set up a Sports Training Ccentre at Munnar in Idukki Parliamentary constituency, Kerala.
ADV. DEAN KURIAKOSE (IDUKKI): Thank you, Speaker Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I would like to draw the kind attention of hon. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, through you, to the suggestions and one demand for development of our sports sector. We are adopting Khelo India programme giving the maximum support for the athletic-oriented sports policy. The main objective of Khelo India programme is identification of talents. Talent identification is not going on, but the talent selection is going on there. Secondly, if you introduce a unique identification number for each athlete and sports person, it will help to avoid age fraud and in identifying deserving candidates for different welfare schemes and pensions. Thirdly, we have to consider our qualified domestic coaches at par with foreign coaches. I have one demand for Kerala.
We have three ‘Khelo India’ Centes there. We want a High Altitude Sports Training Centre to be set up at Munnar in my Constituency. I do not want to explain the importance of High Altitude Sports Training Centres. It will be helpful in improving the competency and capacity of athletes and sports persons in rural areas.
We have the National Adventure Sports Academy there. I would request the Government to provide some financial assistance to this Academy through the National Sports Development Fund. So, combinedly, we can gradually make it as a world’s sports city.
Sir, I would also say a few lines about the Ministry of Youth Affairs. I also agree that employment is not a subject of Ministry of Youth Affairs. But we have to make sure that Ministry of Youth Affairs plays a pivotal role in the policy-making of different Departments, on different subjects because job-orientation is also there.
Before making policies and schemes for developing our nation, we have to deliberate amongst ourselves as to what we are going to do for our younger generation and how we are going to include them in the nation-building process. We cannot ask our younger generation people to join hands in the nation-building process without making them able and competent for this purpose.
With these words, I conclude. Thank you very much.
