SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH (MAVELIKKARA): Madam Speaker, I thank you for giving me this opportunity to raise a matter of urgent public importance relating to Dalit atrocities in the country. Madam, the hon. Home Minister is present here and the Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Home Affairs are also being discussed in the House. The atrocities on Dalits and Adivasis are increasing day by day. New cases are surfacing everyday and the proactive steps which are needed to be taken by the Government are missing. Madam, I fear untouchability, in various forms, is coming up now. After the NDA Government came to power, the cases of atrocities on Dalits are increasing. … (Interruptions) HON. SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH: Madam, recently in Uttar Pradesh near Mathura, a 13-year old girl was gang raped. This is a very serious issue and also in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, … (Interruptions) Madam, in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, some Dalit students were used by the school management for cleaning of toilets. … (Interruptions) These two incidents which happened recently are very serious and are condemnable. … (Interruptions) Madam, I have not completed. The issue is very important. … (Interruptions) How can we tolerate any form of untouchability 67 years after the Independence of our Republic? … (Interruptions) Untouchability is rampant in many parts of our country. … (Interruptions) HON. In Tamil Nadu, atrocities on Dalits are going on. … (Interruptions) Why are they angry? … (Interruptions) Atrocities on the Scheduled Castes are going up in Tamil Nadu day by day. … (Interruptions) These are newspaper reports. … (Interruptions) DR. M. THAMBIDURAI (KARUR): Madam, 20 tribal people have been killed in Andhra Pradesh. Why is he not raising that issue? If he is so sincere, he should raise that issue also. … (Interruptions) SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH: Madam, I mentioned these two recent incidents just as examples. In Uttar Pradesh near Mathura, a 13-year old young girl was raped by some gangsters. I mentioned that also. I have not mentioned only about Tamil Nadu.
