Section 56(1) in The Maharashtra Irrigation Act, 1976
(1)Water used for purposes other than those of irrigation from any natural stream or artificial drain receiving percolation water from a canal shall be charged a water-rate not exceeding that as would ordinarily have been charged if the supply had been made from the canal for such purposes; and water used for such purposes from a well situated on either side of a canal, within a distance of 35 metres from the nearest boundary canal shall be charged a water rate not exceeding one-half of such rate, as may be determined by the Appropriate Authority.
