SHRI PRIYA RANJAN DASMUNSI (RAIGANJ): Mr. Speaker, Sir, first of all, I am thankful to you for your presence in South Africa to witness the World Cup Cricket match and also for your kind blessings to the players.
We, as sports lovers and as citizens of this country, always get disappointed when our team loses and get encouraged when our team wins. This team belongs to India; they are great sons of the country. On many occasions, they score such results which become history for India. Sachin Tendulkar is one of our sports ambassadors. Be it Yuvraj Singh, be it Javagal Srinath, be it Saurav Ganguly, they scored many runs and played great innings for the country. Maybe, in 2-3 matches they could not show off. Yesterday, Mohammed Kaif’s house has been attacked in Allahabad.
SHRI SOMNATH CHATTERJEE (BOLPUR): It is very unfortunate.
SHRI PRIYA RANJAN DASMUNSI : In several places, Sachin’s posters and Saurav Ganguly’s posters are being burnt, and effigies are being burnt. They are yet to play four matches. I request the Union Home Minister that total protection should be ensured to all the cricketers, to build up their morale; let us not lose hope; and let us convey our abundant faith in them.

SHRI PRIYA RANJAN DASMUNSI : We should not bring down the players into such vulgarity. They created history many times.
There is a France Football team led by Zinedane Zidan who is the key to their success; in the World Cup Football match, his team could not qualify in the second round and he explained the reasons. Yet, the people of France did not attack their houses and burn their effigies. This is unfortunate that is happening here. We should not show such a discourtesy to our boys who play for the country. Cricket is a game; for that matter, every game needs luck; luck may not be there for them on this occasion, but that does not mean that we could abuse them and we could treat them like this – attacking the houses and burning the effigies. That should not be encouraged at least by this Parliament and we should send our good wishes to them.
Sir, you are from cricket field, I appeal through you to the Government that it should give all protection to them. Let us collectively pray for the goodwill of the team and for their final game, and let them bring colours to our country. Let us not abuse them everyday from here.

श्री मोहन रावले (मुम्बई दक्षिण मध्य) :अध्यक्ष महोदय, अभी दास मुंशी जी ने जो कहा, मैं उसका समर्थन करता हूं। क्रिकेट एक चांस है। इसमें टीम कभी अच्छा खेलती है और कभी फेल्योर भी हो सकती है लेकिन हमें उनका मोरल बढ़ाने की आवश्यकता है। आप भी उनका मोरल बढ़ाने के लिए वहां गये थे लेकिन अनफार्चुनेटली हमारी टीम ठीक ढंग से खेल नहीं सकी। लेकिन हमारी टीम अभी भी मजबूत है। अगर हम उनका मोरल बढ़ायें तो शायद हमारी टीम अभी भी जीत सकती है। मेरा कहना है कि हिन्दुस्तान के सारे लोगों की भावनायें उनके साथ जुड़ी हुई हैं इसलिए उनके ठीक न खेलने पर कुछ प्रतक्रियाएं हुईं। जिस तरह से उन लोगों ने मैच खेला उससे लोगों के दिलों को ठेस पहुंची लेकिन इसका नतीजा यह नहीं होना चाहिए कि किसी के ऊपर हमला हो।…( व्यवधान)

SHRI SONTOSH MOHAN DEV (SILCHAR): I agree with the hon. Members that we should not behave the way cricket supporters have behaved. It is just a beginning. As you have been rightly saying in electronic media, it is just a beginning. There are four matches to come. We should encourage our boys. Nothing should be done which dashes their mood. Under your leadership, Sir, a message should go to them to the effect, ‘Cheer up boys! We are with you. There is nothing to worry about’.
श्री कीर्ति झा आज़ाद : अध्यक्ष महोदय, सदन की जो भावना है, वह मैं एक खिलाड़ी होने के नाते, चूंकि मैं राष्ट्रीय चयनकर्ता हूं और टीम बनाकर भेजने में मेरा भी हाथ रहा है इसलिए सब सदस्यों ने जो भावना यहां प्रकट की है, उसका मैं आदर करता हूं। मैं यह कहना चाहता हूं कि जिस समय १९८३ में हमने विश्व कप जीता था, उस समय की क्रिकेट टीम का मैं भी सदस्य था। उस समय हमसे इतनी ज्यादा आशा नहीं रखा गयी थी कि हम जीतेंगे क्योंकि उस समय टेलीविजन पर इतने ज्यादा एडवर्टाइजमैंट नहीं होते थे। छक्का मारते हुए शेर को नहीं दिखाया जाता था या कहीं पहाड़ से कूदकर कैच नहीं पकड़ा जाता था। हम केवल सिम्पल क्रिकेट खेलते थे। अभी जो परिस्थिति पैदा हुई है, मैं समझता हूं कि अगर कोई खेलते हुए या लड़ते हुए हारता है तो किसी को दुख नहीं होता लेकिन जिस प्रकार का प्रदर्शन आस्ट्रेलिया के विरुद्ध हुआ, वह किसी भी टीम का हो सकता है। हमने जिस प्रकार से वहां बैटिंग की, उसे देखकर हमें अच्छा नहीं लगा। मैं भी वहां पर था। यह बड़ा ही अटपटा सा लगा कि हमारी टीम इस प्रकार से खेली। जब टीम हार गयी तो मेरे पास मैसेज आने शुरू हो गये क Every Indian should promise that he or she is not going to buy things endorsed by these players. जो खिलाड़ी जिन-जिन जगहों पर एनडोर्स करता है, उसको नहीं करना चाहिए। भारतीय टीम जिस प्रकार से खेली उससे कई लोगों को बुरा लगा। मेरा कहना है कि भारतीय टीम जब कभी भी हारती या जीतती है तो उससे देश को जरूर फायदा होता है। जब हमारी टीम इस प्रकार से हारी तो पूरे देश में स्वदेशी की भावना फैल गयी कि हम पेप्सी और कोक नहीं पीयेंगे बल्कि थम्स अप पीयेंगे। हम सैमसंग और एल.जी. का टी,वी. नहीं लायेंगे बल्कि ओनिडा का लायेंगे। आज लोग जिस प्रकार से बैटिंग आर्डर की बात करते हैं, मैं चयनकर्ता हूं इसलिए लोग मुझसे इस संबंध में पूछते हैं। मैं समझता हूं कि जो भी खिलाड़ी फार्म में होता है, वह जिस नम्बर पर बैटिंग करने की फार्म में है, उसे उसी नम्बर पर बैटिंग करनी चाहिए। अब विवाद यह हो रहा था कि ओपनिंग कौन करे ? सचिन तेंदुलकर को ओपनिंग करनी चाहिए या नहीं ? अब फार्म के हिसाब से खिलाड़ी की परफोर्मैंस को देखना चाहिए। इसके लिए अधिकतर टीम मैनेजमैंट जिम्मेवार होती है। ऐसी स्थिति में अगर वीरेन्द्र सहवाग और सचिन तेंदुलकर ओपनिंग करते तो बड़ा अच्छा होता। लेकिन हम यहां बैठकर, मैं सलैक्टर हूं लेकिन हमारे ऊपर भी सुपर सलैक्टर है, तय करते रहते हैं कि किस को क्या करना चाहिए और किस को क्या नहीं करना चाहिए। हमारा काम है कि हम अपनी टीम को अपनी शुभकामनाएं दें। हमारी टीम को अभी भी चार मैच और खेलने हैं जबकि हम एक मैच जीत चुके हैं। अगर हम तीन मैच भी जीतते हैं यानी नामीबिया वाला हार भी जायें तो भी हमें कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता हालांकि हम उससे हारेंगे नहीं। अगर हम तीन मैच जीत जाते हैं तो हम सुपर सिक्स में पहुंच जायेंगे क्योंकि इंग्लैंड ज़िम्बाब्बे में खेलने नहीं गया तो उसके चार प्वाइंट कैंसिल हो गये। मैं इसके अंदर आई.सी.सी. की बात भी करना चाहता हूं। इंटरनैशनल क्रिकेट काउंसिल ने हरारे में …( व्यवधान)इंग्लैंड की टीम खेलने नहीं गयी। …( व्यवधान)इंग्लैंड को अपने चार प्वाइंट जिम्बाब्बे के खिलाफ गंवाने पड़े।…( व्यवधान)

श्री कीर्ति झा आज़ाद : मैं दो मिनट में अपनी बात खत्म कर रहा हूं। मैं इसके ऊपर आई.सी.सी. को भी जिम्मेदार ठहराता हूं कि इंग्लैंड जो जिम्बाब्वे खेलने के लिए नहीं गई, उसके चार प्वाइंट्स खत्म करके इंग्लैंड को पैनल्टी करनी चाहिए थी, आज भी उसके ऊपर बैठी है, निर्णय नहीं ले रही है। वह देख रही है कि कौन सी टीम जीते, कौन सी हारे जिससे इंग्लैंड को फायदा हो। इसलिए आज भी आई.सी.सी. में जो लोग बैठे हैं, वे रंगभेद की नीति चला रहे हैं। इसके लिए हमारे क्रिकेट कंट्रोल बोर्ड ऑफ इंडिया के अध्यक्ष श्री डालमिया जी ने प्लेयर्स के लिए जो लड़ाई लड़ी, हिन्दुस्तान के लिए जो लड़ाई लड़ी, इसके लिए उनका समर्थन करना चाहिए, हमको अपने खिलाड़ियों का समर्थन करना चाहिए कि वहां अच्छा प्रदर्शन करें और ऐसे चक्करों में बिल्कुल न फसें और किसी के दबाव में न आएं। धन्यवाद।

SHRI TARIT BARAN TOPDAR (BARRACKPORE): Sir, I would like to submit something different. Exuberance on either side is bad. इंडियन प्लेयर्स हैं, कुछ भी कर दो, लड़ जाओ। अगर हम यह ज्यादा करेंगे तो फेल्योर के समय भी ईंट-पत्थर पड़ेंगे। इस तरफ ज्यादा हुआ तो उस तरफ भी ज्यादा होगा।Indian chauvinism is not there. Indians are playing in this tournament and they are playing well. I feel proud when Indians play well. But here it is not India that is playing. The country is not playing. The country has not selected the team. The country has not done this. The Parliament has not done this. The Government has not done this. It is just like a NGO who has done this. Indians are playing there and earning a lot of money. When there is exuberance in their support, there is exuberance in their opposition also. The Government should see to it that law and order is not jeopardised and the security of the players is not in danger.
MR. SPEAKER: Friends, I would not like to go into the merits and demerits of the case. We must be proud of our players. They have created records in the past. After all they are our players. Though technically they are working under an autonomous body, yet they are all Indians. We must wish them good luck. We must remain together on this issue. I would like to urge upon the Government that it is our duty, through the State Governments, to see that our players are protected and they should be given the fullest protection so that their minds should be free and they must try for a victory. I am sure that with the encouragement from the Indian Parliament our team would be in a position to do better next time.
