Section 211 in The Navy (Pay And Allowances) Regulations, 1966

211. Compensation for instruments and books.

(1)Claims on account of loss of, or damage to, instruments or professional books shall be treated on their merits; and in such claims, where they relate to books, the titles and publishers' names and where they relate to any instrument or chronometer, the maker's name, and the particulars of the original cost in each case, should be stated; and if any instrument or chronometer were used in the navigation of the ship, the Commanding Officer should give a certificate to that effect.
(2)The compensation for an instrument lost or damaged shall be made either by the supply of another in lieu thereof, or by a money payment, at the discretion of the Chief of the Naval Staff. Books shall be replaced in kind.
