747. Recruitment of educated men as constables. [§ 12, Act V, 1861].
- As a number of posts of Assistant Sub-Inspectors are filled by promotion from the rank of constable, Superintendents should endeavour to recruit as constables a certain number of educated young men. Such young men must go through the ordinary training and must be prepared to perform all the duties of ordinary constables. Before engaging any such candidate, the Superintendent shall make careful enquiries as to his character and exclude any man whose antecedents are not entirely above suspicion.
