Section 33(1) in The Tamil Nadu Town Panchayats, Third Grade Municipalities, Municipalities and Corporations (Elections) Rules, 2006
(1)After the expiry of the period within which candidature may be withdrawn, if a poll is found to be necessary, the Returning Officer shall, subject to such directions as maybe issued by the State Election Commission in that behalf, assign a distinctive symbol to each contesting candidate. Every candidate or his proposer may, thereafter, be informed of the symbol allotted to the candidate in such manner as the State Election Commission may direct and also be supplied with a specimen thereof.
