Section 10(2) in The Merchant Shipping (Cargo Ship Construction And Survey) Rules, 1974
(2)In every ship of 5000 tons gross or over the following provision shall be made, namely :-(a)electric and electrohydraulic steering gear shall be served by two circuits fed from the main switch board one of which may pass through the emergency switch board, if an emergency switch board is provided on the ship. Each circuit shall have adequate capacity for supplying all the motors which are normally connected to it and which operate simultaneously, and if transfer arrangements are provided in the steering gear room to permit either circuit to supply any motor or combination of motors, the capacity of each circuit shall be adequate for the most severe load condition. The circuits shall be separated as widely as is practicable throughout their length;(h)short circuit protection only shall be provided for such circuits and motors.
