Section 219 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

219. Senior Officer killed in action.

- If a Flag Officer or a Commodore commanding a fleet, flotilla or squadron should be killed in battle, his flag or broad pendant shall continue to fly until the battle is ended or the enemy is no longer in sight; but the officer next in command shall immediately be informed of the event by signal or otherwise, as may at the time be most advisable; and he shall forthwith assume the chief command, reparing to, and managing the fleet, flotilla or squadron from the ship of the former Flag Officer c r Commodore commanding, should he judge it expedient to remove to her; in which case, if he be a Flag Officer or a Commodore, he shall leave his own flag or broad pendant flying on board the ship he quits until the battle is ended.
