(1)The employment of convicts in small gangs or batches, on petty works situate without jail premises, is prohibited:Provided that this prohibition shall not be deemed to extend to the employment of prisoners on jail works, in the jail garden, or on duties connected with the management of premises occupied by officers of the jail, subject to such directions as the Inspector-General may, from time to time, give in that behalf.
