(3)contribute to any charitable fund or to a fund for the defence of the municipality [or India] [These words were substituted for the words 'India or the Empire' by the Adaptation (Amendment) Order of 1950] or to the funds of any institution for the relief of the poor or the treatment of disease or infirmity or the reception of diseased or infirm persons or the investigation of the cases of disease;
