SHRI N.S.V. CHITTHAN (DINDIGUL): The long awaited train service between Dindigul and Palani was resumed on 20.11.2012 after gauge conversion. The distance between these two places is 70 kilometers and the ticket fare is only Rs. 10/-. As a result the service is being operated with full passenger strength.
Palani is one of the holy religious centre of Lord Muruga (Saravana) where devotees not only from India but also from abroad are pouring in throughout the year. Train service from Chennai to Palani will attract and will be convenient to devotees from north India and north of Tamil Nadu to reach the holy place. Similarly passengers expect train service from Rameswaram to Palani and another service from Tiruchendur to Palani will be more helpful to devotees. May I urge upon the Hon’ble Railway Minister to introduce an express train service from Chennai to Palani and also passenger train service from Rameswaram and Tiruchendur.
