Section 197 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

197. Senior Commissioned Officer to Lieutenant.

- Promotions from Senior Commissioned Officer to Lieutenant shall be made by selection from Senior Commissioned Officers who have completed 10 years service in the ranks of Senior Commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer (Branch List) combined and who, on promotion, will be eligible to serve for at least 5 years before reaching the age limit for compulsory retirement. Special cases, where the limit of 5 years is likely to cause hardship, may be considered by the Government on their merits. Seniority in the rank of Lieutenant, shall be counted from the date of promotion.
