71. [ Commitment of child or youthful offender to Classifying Centre. [Section 71 was substituted by Maharashtra 54 of 1975, Section 38.]
- Where a child is found to have committed an offence, the court, if satisfied on enquiry that it is expedient so to deal with the child, may order him to be committed to a Classifying Centre for such period of detention as will not, subject to the provisions of section 5, extend beyond the time in the case of a boy when he completes the age of eighteen years and in the case of a girl, when she completes the age of twenty years, or in exceptional cases for a shorter period, the reasons for such shorter period to be recorded in writing.]
