Section 42(2) in Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
(2)Where for the grant of a consent in pursuance of the provisions of section 25 or section 26 the use of meter or gauge or other measure or monitoring device is required and such device is used for the purposes of those provisions, any person who knowingly or willfully alters or interferes with that device so as to prevent it from monitoring or measuring correctly shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to [ten thousand rupees] [Substituted by Act 53 of 1988, section 22, for 'one thousand rupees' (w.e.f. 29-9-1988).] or with both.
